8-Day, 7-Night Private Cruise Anavilhanas, Jaú National Park, and Rio Branco

An 8-day, 7-night private river cruise along an exclusive and authentic route through the Rio Negro and Rio Branco, navigating areas where pristine forests and waters reign over human presence. River Route: 630 km – Aboard a comfortable regional boat, you will travel along an exclusive route, exploring one of the most untouched areas of the Amazon, where forest and water dominate, offering a true immersion in nature. This region offers breathtaking panoramic landscapes both during the dry season (October – February) and the high-water season (March – September).

Anavilhanas National Park

The Anavilhanas National Park covers an area of 3,504 km² and was established as a national park in 2008, after serving as an ecological station dedicated to scientific research since 1981. With this change, the park became accessible to visitors eager to explore its extraordinary maze, navigating through lakes, narrow channels, and the lush flooded forest during the river’s high season. In 2017, Anavilhanas was recognized by the Ramsar Convention, highlighting its importance in the preservation of global wetlands.

Jaú National Park

Jaú National Park, located in the state of Amazonas, is one of the largest conservation units in Brazil, covering approximately 22,720 km². Established in 1980, the park is internationally recognized by UNESCO as a Natural World Heritage Site and is part of the Central Amazon Conservation Complex. It protects the entire basin of the Jaú River, one of the world’s largest blackwater rivers, stretching 450 km. The park also includes the Carabinani River, where waterfalls and scenic rapids emerge during the dry season, offering perfect spots for nature contemplation. This park is a true biodiversity sanctuary, hosting an impressive variety of flora and fauna, including many species of mammals, birds, reptiles, and amphibians—several of which are endemic to the Amazon. Its remote location and vast expanses of continuous rainforests make the park one of the best-preserved areas in the region. Visitors can explore the park’s natural beauty through both aquatic and land trails, such as the Igapós Trail, which traverses flooded areas during the rainy season, and the Itaubal Trail, ideal for hiking and waterfall exploration. Canoeing and birdwatching are popular activities, with over 445 bird species recorded within the park.

Rio Negro

The Rio Negro, the largest tributary of the Amazon River, is one of the most fascinating rivers in the Amazon, both for its size and unique characteristics. Originating in the mountains of Colombia, the Rio Negro flows for approximately 1,700 km before merging with the Amazon River in Manaus. Although its total length is immense, about 720 km—from its mouth to São Gabriel da Cachoeira—are navigable, offering rich experiences along this stretch. One of the most intriguing aspects of the Rio Negro is the color of its waters, as dark as black tea. This coloration is due to the high concentration of humic acids released by the decomposition of organic matter in the flooded forests. The acidic water inhibits the proliferation of insects, making the region remarkably free of mosquitoes—a relief for those navigating these remote areas. Along the route, travelers can explore two major archipelagos: Mariuá, with around 700 islands, and Anavilhanas, with approximately 400 islands. These islands form landscapes of rare beauty and host impressive biodiversity, offering travelers a deep immersion into Amazonian nature. The riverside communities along the Rio Negro live in harmony with this ecosystem, relying on the river for subsistence, fishing, and transportation, while preserving the surrounding forest. Navigating the Rio Negro is, therefore, not only a journey through the natural wonders of the Amazon but also a connection with the traditional way of life of the local populations.

Rio Branco

The Rio Branco, the largest tributary of the Rio Negro, is a natural treasure of the Amazon with its muddy, whitish waters contrasting with the dark waters of the Rio Negro. The entire Rio Branco watershed is located in the state of Roraima, creating a diverse ecosystem that supports a wide range of wildlife. The river’s course is dotted with numerous side lakes and narrow channels that serve as refuges for birds and other animals. These areas offer a unique experience for observing local fauna and flora, especially during the dry season, when sandbanks emerge, allowing for peaceful walks and photo safaris. The less acidic waters of the Rio Branco, compared to the Rio Negro, create a more favorable environment for both terrestrial and aquatic life. This is reflected in the greater abundance of fish, making fishing a common practice among the riverside communities. Visitors can experience traditional artisanal fishing, guided by local fishermen. This activity is not only a way to secure fresh fish for meals but also a cultural immersion into the daily life of Amazonian residents. During this experience, visitors can learn ancient fishing techniques and understand the importance of sustainability for these populations, who rely on the river for their livelihood. In addition to fishing, the Rio Branco offers a profound connection with nature. The communities living along its banks use natural resources in a balanced way, following traditional practices passed down from generation to generation. This interaction with the environment is essential for preserving local biodiversity and ensuring the livelihood of the families along the river.

Panacarica Community

The Panacarica Community, located along the banks of the Lower Rio Branco in Roraima, is a small riverside community that relies primarily on artisanal fishing. Subsistence fishing is essential for the residents, serving as their main source of food, especially protein. This activity is carried out in a traditional and sustainable way, but the community faces challenges, such as the pressure from commercial fishing, which reduces fish availability and threatens local livelihoods.

In addition to fishing, the community has a small store that provides basic necessities. Environmental conservation and the creation of protected areas, such as the proposed Baixo Rio Branco-Jauaperi Extractive Reserve, have been discussed to ensure the survival of riverside communities and the protection of natural resources.
