River Route: 284 km – Onboard a comfortable regional boat, you will sail along an exclusive route, exploring one of the most pristine areas of the Amazon, where forest and water reign supreme, offering a true immersion in nature. This region offers breathtaking panoramic landscapes both during the dry season (October – February) and the high-water season (March – September).

Anavilhanas National Park

The Anavilhanas National Park covers an area of 3,504 km² and was established as a national park in 2008, after serving as an ecological station dedicated to scientific research since 1981. With this change, the park became accessible to visitors eager to explore its extraordinary maze, navigating through lakes, narrow channels, and the lush flooded forest during the river’s high season. In 2017, Anavilhanas was recognized by the Ramsar Convention, highlighting its importance in the preservation of global wetlands.

Jaú National Park

Jaú National Park, located in the state of Amazonas, is one of the largest conservation units in Brazil, covering approximately 22,720 km². Established in 1980, the park is internationally recognized by UNESCO as a Natural World Heritage Site and is part of the Central Amazon Conservation Complex. It protects the entire basin of the Jaú River, one of the world’s largest blackwater rivers, stretching 450 km. The park also includes the Carabinani River, where waterfalls and scenic rapids emerge during the dry season, offering perfect spots for nature contemplation. This park is a true biodiversity sanctuary, hosting an impressive variety of flora and fauna, including many species of mammals, birds, reptiles, and amphibians—several of which are endemic to the Amazon. Its remote location and vast expanses of continuous rainforests make the park one of the best-preserved areas in the region. Visitors can explore the park’s natural beauty through both aquatic and land trails, such as the Igapós Trail, which traverses flooded areas during the rainy season, and the Itaubal Trail, ideal for hiking and waterfall exploration. Canoeing and birdwatching are popular activities, with over 445 bird species recorded within the park.

Program

Day 1

07:30 AM – Boarding the Karuguá boat at Tauá Tour headquarters in Novo Airão.
Introduction of the crew and briefing on the boat’s operations.
Navigation towards the entrance of Jaú National Park, passing through the labyrinth of Anavilhanas Islands.
Madadá caves trail (duration: 2h30).

Days 2 and 3

Activities within Jaú National Park and the Carabinani River.
Land and water trails, wildlife and flora observation, with an overnight stay at Igarapé Preto.

Day 4

Navigation towards Novo Airão, enjoying the channels, lakes, or beaches (during the dry season).
02:30 PM – Disembark at Tauá Tour headquarters.
03:00 PM – Guided visit to the Almerinda Malaquias Foundation – educational and social programs.
04:30 PM – End of the cruise.

Activities during the journey are determined by the water levels. The dry season (usually between September and February) and the high-water season (between March and August) in the Amazon offer different landscapes and experiences.

During the dry season, it is possible to visit river beaches, rapids, rocky outcrops, and even petroglyphs. In the high-water season, you can explore the flooded igapó forest and navigate aquatic trails.

The goal of both land and water trails is to spot wildlife.

The Hosts

Marta Vieira da Silva Vallotton

A Brazilian native, daughter of Miguel Rocha, the visionary and founder of FAM, she learned to love nature and work in tourism alongside her father.

She is the founder of the environmental education program at the Almerinda Malaquias Foundation (FAM), an innovative educator focused on teenagers.

Marta shares another passion: plants and animals.

Jean-Daniel Vallotton

A Swiss native, he worked on hospital construction projects in Gabon, Africa. He took part in a six-week expedition in the French Guiana rainforest with the Wayana and Oyampi indigenous peoples.

He is also the founder of the Almerinda Malaquias Foundation and has dedicated over 25 years to building and developing the organization’s training and education programs.
